There has always been something about live television that captivates me. It may be the same fascination that America has with reality TV.
Here is a live look at Kevin Cupp, the new Planet Blacksburg webmaster:
UStream is a service that allows anyone with a video camera, and an internet connection to set up their own live TV channel on the web.
This afternoon, I spent about 30 minutes typing in an IM window to Kevin while simultaneously watching him respond and react. The audio quality was spectacular, and the video rarely skipped. As I mentioned to Kevin, this was one of the most unique communication experiences I have ever had, simply because it was both personal and interactive.
We both agree that transparency is the way of the web nowadays. I think businesses should start broadcasting live video feeds on their websites right now.
It seems that the less privacy you have, the more control you have over your online identity. Ustream is a start, and I think the younger crowds will definitely latch on to this. Can you imagine allowing your teenager to broadcast his or her life over the internet 24/7?
Ustream transcends the YouTube phenomenon. This is live YouTube, and anyone can do it. Are you addicted yet? I signed up for an account. Now I just need a camera
