Pownce stands for participation
I was
listening to Leo Laporte and John C. Dvorak argue about the difference between Pownce and Twitter. Guys, THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! Twitter simply asks, "What are you doing?"
Pownce doesn't ask you any questions. Instead, it feels like a comfortable, social web app. Yea, it looks like Twitter, but you can choose different media types, and they have this revolutionary thing called
commenting.
I know that you can "
at" or "
D" people on Twitter, but interacting with a
tweet isn't as elegant as this:
I can't ever see myself leaving Twitter though. It kinda reminds me of MySpace. I am kinda ashamed to be using a web application built on faulty software, but the community is there. Twitter is successful because it's right here, right now. It's simply about your friend's status, and it's much easier to digest. Pownce takes more effort, but your experience is richer. So-called "micro-blogging" excites me, and I want to know how it will evolve. The web community that can figure out a way to aggregate everyone's social data into one easy-to-digest format will survive the upcoming web 2.0 bust. Could it be
Friendfeed, Iminta, Jaiku, ? Personally, I think it must integrate email. That's why
Google has the leg up on everybody. Oh, and they already have a . Pownce is doing a good job of luring me in a few times a day. It's more fun that Twitter because it involves my initiative to click through to videos, browse someone's photos, or listen to my friend's favorite songs. Twitter just gives me a
tinyURL. Which social network do you enjoy most? Which one do you look forward to participating in?
