Facebook’s new design evolving

Last month, Facebook released their new design in beta, and it’s fun to watch it evolve.

It’s fun to watch it change. Here is a screenshot from about a week ago:

Looks like they are moving the profile photo to the right (taken 7/12):

And finally on 7/20:

Which one do you like best?

  • from a person with an art and design degree, i like the second one best. (even though that art and design degree has anything to do with web design :P)
  • And yet, in all those designs, there's one constant -- Andrew's posing with a girl.
  • Mark Bate
Okay second attempt at posting, cus apparently I failed basic maths.. ;p

I'd heard Facebook had a beta site up, but didn't have a direct link (thanks ;p).. really love what they've done with the new design, makes it look a lot cleaner, like it used to be before everyone added every app under the sun.
So yeah, I really like that the apps have moved to the "boxes" tab.

I also like how they've gone more web 2.0-y by putting smooth transitions between photo pages and status updates, etc.

Only thing I'm not sure about is the without the sidebar, the page feels a little weird, a bit too empty in a fullscreen (1680x1050) window.

But overall I like what they've done, it's a great improvement over the existing stuff.. not that there's anything too wrong with the existing, but you have to give the house a new coat of paint occasionally ;p

Also, a heads up: your original post (https://andrewmager.com/2008/05/23/facebook-...) is getting cropped. It gets cropped on the left in Firefox 3, and on the right in the latest Safari. I have a feeling it's just that your images are too wide? ;p
  • Moving the profile pic to the right makes it pretty much impossible to not realize this is the "new" "improved" facebook. That's just another reason to shift it, I like the new look :-)
  • That's me! Yeah I think I like the second one better as well.
