Is Mozilla going social?

Mozilla Weave

I just saw a RWW post about Mozilla’s newest labs experiment.

The new project, which is called Weave, promises to

“focus on finding ways to enhance the Firefox user experience, increase user control over personal information, and provide new opportunities for developers to build innovative online experiences”.

They want to build an infrastructure to enable users to share metadata to friends and third-party applications. It’s not a Facebook competition, but more of a complement. They have some pretty interesting use cases too.

I signed up for beta testing, and already uploaded my bookmarks.

In the process, I got to try Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 2.

Weave sounds promising. The guys down in Mountain View know what they are doing, and I think this product will be a success. The question of security will always come into play, but Mozilla does a real good job of that. They sure do a lot of research beyond the padlock.

Your web browser is quickly becoming your most used desktop application (if it isn’t aleady). Mozilla is headed down the right path, and I will continue to use their products as the web matures.
